I have been AFAA certified as a Group Exercise Instructor since 1999, and I received my AFAA Personal Trainer certification in 2002. I have had over 100 hours of training with Beto Perez, creator of Zumba® as well as other trainings with Zumba education specialists and was the first to bring Zumba® to Brevard over 5 years ago. I've been teaching group exercise (step, yoga, kickbox, spin, body sculpting) since 1999, and Zumba® since 2003. I was selected to be a master trainer candidate in September 2006. Now I've opened my own Studio Zumba (only the second one ever)! In 2007 I was invited to be a cast member of the latest Zumba® workout DVD series filmed in Santiago, Chile with Beto the creator of Zumba, and Tanya, Asuka and Gina and other Zumba educators. I was also invited to give my weight loss testimonial in Hollywood for the latest infomercial. (I lost 25 pounds teaching Zumba® back in 2005) What a fabulous year!
I first found out about Zumba® when shopping for workout videos to help me find new ideas for my other classes. At the time I was teaching step, hi-lo, kickboxing and spinning and beginning to get a bit bored. (I have a closet full of those old videos that I occasionally borrow a couple steps from but never actually work out with any more. With the Zumba® videos I actually did the routines over and over just because they were so much fun! I liked it so much that I went to the Zumba® Web site and found out they were holding an instructor workshop in Miami, so I gave myself a birthday present and went to my first workshop in October 2003. I had so much fun that I've attended more than a dozen more workshops since then! Zumba® is my passion, and I love to share it with my students. (More than a dozen of them have gone on to get their own training to teach.) It never gets boring. I'm over 40, a wife and mother of two, with another part-time job, and my own Studio Zumba so if I can do it, so can you!!
